Find out what makes our BDM Laura smile

Laura – and her radiant smile – joined the Bridgewater Bank family earlier this year. She’s taken the reins as BDM for Saskatchewan, Edmonton, and central and northern Alberta. If you haven’t met her yet, we recommend giving her a shout! Like we quickly did, you’ll discover she works hard, she’s goal driven and does it all with a smile (a real one too).

Read the Q&As below to get a better glimpse into Laura and what makes her smile!

Q: Why did you decide to work in the mortgage industry?

A: My father was a broker in the industry for many years. He loved the role and helping people get into their home. I started working with him right out of school. Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to have tried most roles in our industry!

Q: What’s your favourite aspect of your job as a BDM?

A: I’m grateful for my previous experiences as a broker and underwriter, but being a BDM has always been my dream. One of my favourite features of the job is being able to help brokers structure their deals along with learning together in this ever-changing mortgage industry.

Q: How do you stay informed about what’s happening in the market?

A: I’m lucky to have amazing industry partners, both brokers and other BDMs. I’ve also been very fortunate to have great coaching from my employers.

Q: What’s a skill you’d like to learn and why?

A: I’ve always wanted to learn another language… Spanish in particular.

Q: In the span of your career, what are you the most proud of?

A: I’m most proud and grateful for the relationships I’ve made throughout the years. I’ve lived and worked in many different cities including Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary and now I get to call Edmonton home. I’m lucky to add Saskatchewan to my territory and look forward to getting to know my clients there as well.

Q: Who do you most admire in life?

A: Natalie… she is one of the kids I met during my years volunteering at Hull Services in Calgary. She just turned 13 this year and has been through so much, but is still so positive and caring. She always makes me smile and I’m lucky to have her in my life. She also just recently got adopted – it’s wonderful to see her with the family she has always wanted.

Q: What’s your best childhood memory?

A: Beating my brothers at Nintendo – we were very competitive. I have three younger brothers and we are all very close.

Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

A: Africa for sure. I really want to hike Mount Kilimanjaro and go on a safari. I grew up watching nature shows and it would be a dream come true!

Q: What’s your most treasured item?

A: Family, which also includes my fur babies.

Q: If we asked your best friend to describe you, what would they say?

Q: They would describe me as sarcastic, outgoing and always there for people.

Q: If I had the opportunity to pass through your region, what would be your top recommendations for things to do?

A: There is so much to do in Edmonton! The stadium is great for games and concerts. They also have a ton of festivals here in the spring and summer. West Edmonton Mall is a classic place to visit. You can also go for walks on the river valley and visit the Muttart Conservatory . The restaurant scene is constantly growing her – as a foodie, there are new hot spots popping up regularly.

In Saskatchewan, I’m really excited to hear recommendations for myself when I’m there visiting my brokers. I’ve only been there twice now, but it’s very beautiful. Please leave a comment or email me if there’s a spot in Saskatchewan you think I should see on my next roadtrip!
