Getting to know your B.C. BDM
We’re eager to share another great interview with another amazing BDM. Get to know Yvonne – sister, past-life swords-woman, Bridgewater Bank BDM for Lower Mainland, Island, and northern British Columbia and all-around good person.
Why did you decide to work in the mortgage industry?
I have a sibling in the industry. Her positive experience encouraged my decision to shift my career many years ago. I fell in love with the industry and brokering. Now, I have a real passion for the business development side of it all.
What’s your favourite aspect of your job as a BDM?
Educating brokers on the alternative lending side of our industry. Alt lending can be daunting for those who do not have a great deal of experience in the area. I am eager to help them understand how it works and how files are viewed from the eye of the lender. Helping them close more business is very rewarding, too.
How do you stay informed about what’s happening in the market?
Our many industry resources online and industry relationships – I have some great relationships with brokers and other BDMs who I chat with regularly. I’m also on the board of the BC Lenders Group Association where we share industry intel with each. I also follow the Bridgewater Bank social media accounts – Facebook and LinkedIn.
What’s a skill you’d like to learn and why?
Fencing, maybe because I wielded a mean sword in another life…(?)
In the span of your career, what are you the most proud of?
Seeing a vision of where I wanted to be in my career and getting there. I believe in making a difference in what I do daily, while remaining positive during the challenges I face in my career.
Who do you most admire in life?
People who have not let adversity in their life stop them from succeeding. I am inspired every day by these individuals.
What’s your best childhood memory?
Fishing with my dad and little brother, I ALWAYS caught the biggest fish!
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
Croatia, I am coming for ya! My son-in-law is from Croatia. He, my daughter and grand kids go every two years, and they have been bugging us to join them. I am looking forward to seeing the history of this country and the beauty I see in pictures and stories.
What’s your most treasured item?
Without a doubt, my family. I’m so thankful for all of them. They are amazing humans.
If we asked your best friend to describe you, what would they say?
That I am a good person.
If I had the opportunity to pass through your region, what would be your top recommendations for things to do?
Visit our lakes and beaches to experience the beauty of our province. Be sure to eat at Seasons restaurant at Queen Elizabeth Park. A visit to Stanley Park, Gas Town, shopping on Robson, a ferry ride to Vancouver Island and whale watching.
