Net worth assets

How can your clients prove net worth?

If your client is applying for a Gateway Rental Mortgage, we require a list of their net assets to prove net worth. This helps provide assurance they can pay their mortgage if they are without a renter or if a significant life event occurs.

Demonstrating your client’s net worth will aid them in their mortgage approval. Your client can use the list of assets below to prove their net worth:

  • Cash
  • GICs
  • Certificates of deposit
  • Savings bonds
  • Treasury bills
  • Common and preferred shares
  • Mortgage backed securities (MBS) certificates
  • Mutual fund investments
  • Cash value of whole life insurance
  • Other marketable securities
  • RRSP deposits (the loan to create the RRSP must be repaid)

Underwriting tip: Get your client thinking about how they can prove their net worth in the early stages of the mortgage process. Then they won’t be scrambling when it’s time to gather the supporting paperwork!
